Mark Baranek

Senior Vice-President,
Technical Services, ComEd, USA

 

As SVP of Technical Services, Mark is responsible for Engineering, Project Management, Contract Management, Real Estate, Environmental, Vegetation Management, and Smart Grid & Technology for ComEd. This position oversees the engineering and investment strategy for the energy delivery system in Northern Illinois. ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (Nasdaq, EXC). ComEd delivers electricity to more than 4 million residential and business customers across northern Illinois or 70 percent of the state’s population.

Mark has over 35 years of increasing leadership experience in the Transmission and Distribution industry. Most recently, he served as vice-president of Project and Contract Management, responsible for the execution of all large investment projects, programs, and interconnections for ComEd’s distribution and transmission system. Additionally, Mark oversaw the management of construction and engineering contracts related to those investments.
Prior to that, Mark served as ComEd Director of Transmission where he oversaw maintenance, reliability, and construction of the overhead and underground transmission grid in Northern Illinois. Over his distinguished career, he has led teams in implementing the work management process at ComEd and establishing foundational Distribution Management Systems for real-time configuration control and outage management.

Mark is a board member of Meals on Wheels and sponsors and supports numerous charities including United Voices/Chicago Children’s Choir and the Illinois Spinal Cord Injury Association. In 2023 Mark was the Executive Sponsor for ComEd Cause of the Year benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. Additionally, he plays an active role in supporting Employee Resource Groups at ComEd and is the Executive Sponsor of ENABLED.

Mark holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Mark is also a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
